That dress!

This is in response to the question I left on my last blog, Finding "that" dress.

The dress that I wore is...

                                                       THIS!

I chose this because Ian said it look good on me, and I believed him (they say that when it comes to looking your best, your boyfriend knows best). Haha. I must admit that I was on a tight budget also that time so I let his preference prevail since it favors my wallet.;p

I wrapped the scarf around my shouders/neck to cover my broad shoulders. Pardon my unruly hair, due to time constraint, I wasn't able to fix it 'properly'. I just blow-dried it. Haha.

I bought this to go with my dress because I can't find the right heels to match.White, (like the color black) fits with any color and cute crystal beads adorns the pair so I decided to match it with my dress.

                                                   White and gold accessories.

With my cousin who said that I can only wear the dress when I don't have any choice anymore. Haha. I didn't put any make-up on that day. I just used some non-comedogenic foundation and lip gloss. My skin is unreasonably sensitive and I often (if not always) get pimples whenever I put any on my face.

It was nevertheless a lovely wedding!<3

finding "that" dress.

Weddings are always wonderful: those nice gowns, colorful flowers and happy people.

I used to spend hours watching wedding coverages at Youtube, particularly those of Jason Magbanua's http://jasonmagbanua.com/. (Though there's one particular video he made that I don't like, the pre-nup of Maggie Wilson, it is horrible.:< )

My oldest close cousin just got married last September 19, 2011. As expected, it was a lovely wedding. It was held at the wedding capital of Batangas- Caleruega (I'm going to post some pictures of the event at my next entry). The main motif was mint green, but guests can wear any of the pastel colors as long as it's formal looking.

I particularly like yellow, it is my favorite color. I only had one week to find the dress that I'll be wearing, (on my exam week!) So one half day weekday, I just went to the nearest mall in my uniform to find the perfect fit, in yellow.

SM DasmariƱas doesn't have a lot of chic boutiques unlike Mall of Asia, or Robinson's Ermita, at least. I only saw three stores with descent dresses on it, including the Department Store.

These are the dresses that I tried on in Lhasa boutique:

Dress No. 1
Php 2, 000+

 Dress No. 2  Php 1,000+

 Dress No. 3
  Php 1,000+

I love the details of this dress.

All of the above dresses' back
look like this.

 Dress No. 4  Php 350
(on sale, originally 700? I forgot.)

I love the cut of this one.

The yellow dresses were great. I considered them all, especially the last one, because it's cheap! Haha. I was on the verge of buying it but then for some reasons, I hesitated. So I went looking for more when weekend came. Guess where.

 Dress No. 5   Php 400
                                          (originally 800)

Yes this is not yellow, but it is pastel. And I liked its soft hue.
What I didn't like with this dress is its bottom part.
There's a see-through fabric that reminded me of  a  kulambo/ mosquito net.

Dress No. 6   Php 400
 (originally 800)
Ian chose this one. He insisted on fitting it though it's too dark for pastel. I texted the groom's sister which is my cousin also if I can break the color code. She said I can, ONLY if I have no choice.

What dress suit me best? Why?
and
What dress you think I chose?
I'm going to post that dress on my next post.
:)

quick update: i missed blogging.;p

Yes.  I've been busy for the past few weeks. There has been a roller coaster series of events that took place, and it's not over yet. Let me share what happened on those days that I went missing here at Blogspot (no one might be interested to know but I'll still blog it.) Haha.;p

As always, I was seated on the choir loft with my choir mates.

The Kutless concert was a huge success. The band, as expected was amaaazing. The whole COP auditorium was filled on the Saturday night concert, and a lot of people were able to know and accept Jesus in their lives. A lot of people were saved.:)

I was so delighted that Ian's friends came to see the concert with us. We've been praying for them.

God was so good, he touched their hearts and two of them accepted Him and went to the Altar call for the acceptance prayer as it is said in   Romans 10:9.  (Take note, accepted Christ, not converted to a religion. Christianity was never a religion. It's about accepting him, having faith in Him and living according to His will.)

People heeding the altar call.                                             Mama and Ian with his friends and cousin.

Next, I've been so occupied making a scrapbook.

My older brother, Alvin Marion migrated to San Diego California with his family last September 30, 2011. Since he already had all the things he needed and refused to have anything heavy, (so that they will not have problems with the baggage weight) I decided to make him a scrapbook filled with pictures and dedications instead.

Having lunch at the bus while going to Tagaytay.
Together with Ian, I went to houses of our relatives (as far as Tagaytay) to solicit messages from them for my kuya. We don't know how long he'll be separated from us (he'll be applying for a green card) so I got a little sentimental while doing the thing. Hehe. I juggled on doing the creative work on the twenty pages back-to-back of the scrapbook while doing my school works. I even slept on it. ;p

Thank God and I finished it for four days (I just worked on it two hours a day, plus two days where  our immediate relatives wrote their messages to him.)

A sample page of what I did. This is my page.
Every page corresponds to different relatives with their pictures with my brother and their messages for him.
And the day came. I handed the heavily love-laden piece of craftsmanship to my brother and bid our farewells. My father is an Airport Police so we didn't had any problems on acquiring several passes. My heart was heavy but NO, I didn't cry. Unlike in my brother's farewell lunch (where we really shed tears) I was surprised that none of us that time did, just my grandmother. Maybe because we know that they are going  for a good reason and we believe that their lives will be better there. Internet is so handy so we will not have any problems with communication...as if they are just here in the country too. Yes, maybe that's the reason why.

Dan, our youngest refused to go. He said he was tired from his P.E. class but I believe he's just not that strong  to see his brother go. It's a shame he didn't, but we understand. I want to believe kuya Alvin did too. Dan wrote all the things he wanted to say on the scrapbook anyway.

My brother with his biological family who loves him so much
(minus Dan, our bunso plus lola.)

After that, I attended a good friend's house party and also had exams and some quizzes. These definitely ate my time.

And oh, I even stupidly injured myself from our gate.
I was already late for my morning class so I hurriedly closed the gate of our house not knowing that my palm is caught on its closing edges and was squeezed between it! It surely hurt.

Clumsy me!;p Hope it will not leave a mark.:(

"Hell week" / week full of hardcore exams are just around the corner so my next post may be two weeks from now. I know I'll be missing a lot but I'll just make up for it by reading a lot of blog posts from you on sembreak (which starts on Oct. 20).

Happy blogging!<3

photo rama 03: my brother and his antiques.

Dan is the youngest in our family, we're a sibling of four. He is fond of doing things that makes us laugh, a trait that he inherited from our father.

This is one of his amusing acts caught on cam while in a family vacation at Batangas.

'Di Manyak means Not a Pervert

The funny gay-looking person beside my brother is my uncle, who is a comedian himself. He is a straight guy by the way.:)

Do you have a funny brother too? ;p

Kutless. (And their upcoming concert in Manila)

Please visit their official band site to know how wonderful they are:      http://www.kutless.com/

Get to know them:
Kutless is a Christian rock band from Portland, Oregon formed in 2000. Since their formation, they have released six studio albums including their latest, "It is Well". Currently, they have sold almost 2 million records.

Kutless chose their name because of a specific Bible verse.
Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (NRSV).

Because of this, the band says, "He took our cuts for us... leaving us 'Kutless' ". Their first single was called "Your Touch." Their second single from their debut album, "Run," would go on to hold the record for the longest charting song in the history of the R&R Top 40 charts.

Watch  my second favorite from their songs:
"That's What Faith Can Do"

In 2004, after releasing and selling over 250,000 copies of their second full-length album, Sea of Faces, Kutless would go on their first headlining tour, X 2004. That same year, Kutless was slated to perform at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Greece, but could not make it due to the airline canceling their flight. In 2005, Kutless played a Hurricane Katrina Benefit Relief Concert in their hometown of Portland Oregon.

On the March 28, 2006, an episode of NBC's "Scrubs, "My Bright Idea," incorporated a significant portion of the song "All of the Words" from Sea of Faces Album during the final scene. The episode hit an eleven week ratings high, and was among the first Scrubs episodes that can be downloaded on iTunes. The band's songs "Hearts of the Innocent" and "Beyond the Surface" are playable songs on the Christian Guitar Hero game called "Guitar Praise."Their songs "Shut Me Out" and "Your Touch" were later featured in Guitar Praise's Expansion Pack 1. Their song "The Feeling" appears on the video game Rock Band 2 as an extra downloadable song. "Strong Tower" was added in 2011.

"Everything I Need"
I got teary-eyed the first time I heard this. Beautiful Song.

Kutless’s video "Shut Me Out" has been placed on an exclusive Microsoft/Wal-Mart DVD give-a-way. Consumers who purchase the new Xbox game "The Apprentice," featuring Donald Trump, will receive a copy of Kutless's new video. Suzuki Motor Corporation announced that it will be the sole sponsor of the band's Hearts of the Innocent tour.

                                                    "Shut Me Out"

"Heart of the Innocent"
It might not be obvious enough, but they are a Rock band.

2008 To Know that You Are Alive              2009 It is Well

Finally, my most favorite song from this band:
"Draw Me Close"

This is a FREE Concert, and open for ALL, regardless of what religious denomination/sect/faith you are in. All are welcome to come, on the premise that you know at least a Christian who goes to and is a member of Cathedral of Praise or C.O.P. (where the concert will be held) for there were tickets made to facilitate organization, (to prevent chaos on the said concert) and the said church members are the ones who will give the tickets to you. In other words, you will be an  "exclusive guest" to be able to watch the concert..absolutely free, all you need is the interest to go and have fun with His brand of music. How cool is that?;p

Unfortunately, due to its great demand, no more tickets were left to give since last week. I'm blessed to be part of COP myself, and I got the chance to get five tickets for my personal invites. Just to clarify things: It will be an evangelistic concert. This concert's purpose is not to entertain people but to draw them closer to God, like what the last video says.

For those who do not have tickets and cannot be accommodated inside the auditorium, there will be a big screen set-up on the parking lot. You can watch the concert from there and be blessed. God is omnipresent, he is everywhere and He can touch your heart wherever you are..as long as you are listening and is willing to open your heart for Him.<3

God bless you.

histrionic me 01: Complicating the complicated look.

First of all, I don't consider myself a fashionista. I'm not anywhere near that. :)

I have my own fashion statement, yes, but I don't believe that it's the kind that everyone (or anyone) would want to try on. Haha. Most of the time I'm a minimalist, wearing plain shirts, maong pants and slippers. I like it that way.

about 5 years ago. ;p

However, risky as I am, I sometimes also take chances in experimenting clothes in the hope of looking better or unique.;p So from time to time, my alter-ego (who is histrionic) takes over my fashion sense and does her thing to the point of making me outlandish. I used to have an account in Lookbook.nu but I gave it up 'cos I got tired from updating and no one would hype. LOL. I'm kind of hesitant to post these pictures here (since a large count of bloggers are fashionistas themselves) until this day that I finally gathered enough courage to do so.^.^

So hear goes my first one.

Three months ago, Ian and I decided to have lunch at Berjaya (http://www.berjayahotel.com/), an International hotel that is in Makati. I don't know what got into me but "Berjaya" is a Malaysian word and since it is, a tried to go for a casual Malaysian look.

Details:
Rayban, top from my auntie Kristy's defunct clothing line,
Jag jeans, Pashmina scarf (tied around my waist),
woven bag  (natural fibers w/ shell accents) from World Trade bazaar,
gold (ribbon-strapped) slip-on from Avon.

I don't usually wear backless.
I have fever that day.

Taken at the hotel lobby.

So the casual Malaysian failed to look Malaysian..no trace of it at all (I believe most of the Malaysians are Muslims, and there's a lot of flesh here) Hehe. I asked Ian how do I look like and he said I resemble more of a Thailander..probably due to my crazy hair, eh?;p

What do Thailanders look like? :)

I learned it the hard way: The story behind my snatched phone.

Objective: To inform people of one of the on-going strategies of theft on the streets.

Place of Crime: Inside a bus (Igan).
                        Route: Southmall/Casimiro/Moonwalk

Time of Incident: 8:40-9:30 PM

Where the bus is when it happened: Roxas Blvd. cor. MIA road.

Brief Story:
It was last Saturday night. I just left church (service ends at 8pm) and as usual, my boyfriend accompanied me at the bus stop. I was supposed to ride an Erjohn or San Agustin, but Ian forbid me to go to Cavite (since it's getting late) so I decided to stay at my auntie's condo (where I stay when in Manila), which is just near Coastal Mall.

So I alighted an Igan bus, a bus like this:
Not the actual bus. Just a sample.
Iam not saying that Igan buses are accomplices, it just so happened that
it is where it happened.

Minutes before the unfortunate circumstance:
I know that texting inside public utility vehicles, especially in a jeep is a no-no. However, while inside a fx or bus, I feel comfortable enough to text/use my phone. I texted some people that time and must admit that the cell was really exposed to people sitting in proximity to me that time. The one sitting beside me look like a college student, and like me, he was also texting.

I was using a medium-sized Adidas backpack that time, filled with personal belongings like clothes, camera, water jug, etc. since we had our choir's Sportsfest early that day. I even had a badminton racket with me. When I'm about to descend, I carelessly put my phone (an old model of Ericsson Walkman series) in the front pocket of the backpack. I used to just hold it but since I'm holding a racket that time, I decided to put it in the bag. I make sure that all of the zippers are closed. The backpack was heavy and I'm still in the bus, so I carried the bag in the proper way backpacks should be carried, with the front pocket at my far back.

The Modus operandi:
And so I shouted "Sa tabi lang po, Para!/ Please stop, I'm going to descend now" I left my seat and headed towards the bus door. When I was about to go to the steps, a man, who is seated behind the bus driver suddenly blocked my way. He remained in his seat but his upper body and left leg is on my way, 'cos he seemed to be looking for something at the front of the bus (I don't know what, probably none, since he was just acting, I realized hours later). I felt that there was a slight pressure on my back (the feeling that you get when you know there's someone on your back, close enough to touch you) but having feelings like that is just normal when you are standing in the bus, especially when there are other people who wants to go out also) so I just ignored.

It took me three times to say "Excuse me", I uttered the last one with annoyance due to the oddness of the situation; I kept on telling him to let me pass but it's like he's not paying attention or hearing anything at all (It was intentional, so that there'll be more time for his accomplice to get my things, I realized too late). Finally, when he let me pass, I immediately went out, walked some steps and ran to the other side of the highway, where the condo is. It's less than a minute after I went out the bus. I already reached the other side, and it's in the condo lobby when I saw that my bag is already open.:(

Their Loot:
-cell phone
-unused black sock (left the other piece)
-grocery list

I still thank God because:
-they were not able to get my silver bracelet which is the first Christmas gift I ever received from Ian (it is also where the phone is).
-they were not able to open the larger compartment of the bag ( the camera is there, with my wallet and other valuables)..or maybe they are just really targeting the phone. hay. it's not even touchscreen!
-none of my things dropped from my bag though the pocket was open and I ran in the highway.
-despite of it, I was safe.

Points that I learned:
-Don't be too comfortable even in places that you think is safe enough. It is still outside your house so stay alert.
-It is always wise to be vigilant. 'Di bale ng praning kaysa nananakawan ka ng gamit/It is better to be paranoid than to be stolen from.;p
-Don't compromise on safety measures when commuting.
*I've always known that when you're using a backpack and there are valuable items inside, you should wear it on the opposite manner, with the bag at your front. I didn't do it since my bag was heavy..I should have done something like this instead:

Just support your bag if it's heavy but don't wear it on your back.
Better yet, divide your things and put the valuables
in a smaller bag so that you can  put it within your
site and secure it.

-Not all people will help. Minutes after what happened I asked myself: "Wala man lang 'ba nakakita?/Doesn't anyone saw it?" The answer will be not known to me anymore but if ever there was, he/she definitely didn't help. So if you are commuting alone, don't rely at anybody but yourself to protect you.

Other areas I know where theft is rampant:

via Jeepney
    Route: Divisoria-Buendia, about 4 PM
-I came from Divi and was riding the jeep when there occurred a traffic at Manila City hall area and a man inside the jeep suddenly snatched an old woman's seemingly gold necklace (sitting inside also) and ran off the vehicle. It was fortunate that the woman's neck didn't hurt that much.

Route: San Andres Bukid, about 8 PM
-I rode the jeep together with Ian and Queenie, my cousin who is still young that time. Several middle-aged men also rode the jeep with us, about 5 of them. Based on what I remember, two of them seated beside Ian, another beside me and Queenie is sandwiched between the two of us. The remaining men seated opposite to us. We were talking and playing with my cousin and minutes later, all of the men suddenly descended and when Ian reached for his pocket, his phone was not there anymore.

Route: Buendia from Recto, about 3 PM
-My sister bought something at Recto and she was with another student she didn't know inside the jeep, about to go home when two men with ice peaks alighted and declared a hold-up. The criminals asked for their phones, my sister immediately gave hers but the other said he has none. The man stabbed him at his side with the ice peak before they ran off. There was blood spill and an ambulance came to rescue. My sis was a bit traumatized due to horrible experience.

    Route: MCU, about 12 AM
-This was a very unfortunate theft incident that happened with Ian's brother just a week ago. To make the long story short, There were just two of them and the jeepney driver inside when a group of men also rode the jeep and declared a hold-up minutes later after the jeep changed its route. The criminals had something on their backs, something pointed (not sure if gun) and they took all of their belongings, their whole bags. They even forced them to withdraw all the money in their ATM account. Talk about being demanding.:(

I hate to say this but it's better to be realistic than to deny it.
When in the Philippines, and commuting,
Be extra careful.:)
